A Day in the Life of a Huntingdon Hawk: Mary Charles Davis ’27

Montgomery, AL – Mary Charles Davis is a sophomore from Cullman, Alabama. She is an outstanding student working towards a degree in business administration and she is a standout women’s golfer. She took us through her day on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, as a student-athlete preparing for her next tournament.

“My day started at 6:00 a.m. I woke up and changed into my workout clothes. I try to lay out my

uniform the night before, complete with shoes. However, this morning, I realized I left my shoes in my car and you cannot work out in Birkenstocks! I finished getting ready and ran to my car to grab my tennis shoes.

I arrived at Roland Arena at 6:40 a.m. for workouts with Coach Mary. We focused on front squats today. But my favorite part of workouts Is the stretching at the end. It helps me feel loose before practice! After workouts at 7:30 a.m., I went with my teammates to the Scarlet and Grey Shop to get some breakfast. I always have the strawberry acai with lemonade since I’m not a big coffee fan. If I’m hungry and the cinnamon rolls are fresh, I’ll grab one of those too.

I went back to the residence hall to change clothes and go to my 8:00 class, Graphic Novels with Dr. Tom Perrin. Today we discussed the main plot points of the graphic novel, Berlin. At 9:30 I met with one of my professors, Dr. Balit-Moussalli, to make sure I was staying caught up with my schoolwork in Microeconomics. With golf being one of the sports that misses class days for tournaments and travel, it is a priority that I stay on top of my schoolwork! After I met with my professor, I went to my last class of the day at 11:00, Biblical Ethics with Dr. Joy Moore. In that class we had an interesting conversation about how the ten commandments relate to The Hunger Games.

This week my team is practicing at the Capitol Hill Robert Trent Jones course in Prattville. I hoped in my car after Dr. Moore’s class and grabbed some Chick-fil-A on the way to the golf course. At around 1:00 p.m. we did putting drills and range drills till around 2:30. I stuck around to continue to work on putting to prepare for our tournament next week in Rome, Georgia.

I left the course around 5:00 p.m. and came back to campus to meet some friends for dinner in the DH. After dinner, I went to my room and took a shower, did some housekeeping chores, did laundry, and homework. I also took time to write in my prayer journal and reflect on my day.

At 10:00 p.m. I called it a night!”

After Mary Charles completed her day in the life for HC News on October 22, she competed the next week and finished in 4th place as an individual golfer and the Huntingdon women’s golf team finished in 2nd place at the Chick-fil-A Invitational on October 28-29.
